Leone De Castris in China

Salice Salentino, a small village in Salento rich in vineyards and olive groves, is the landscape giving life to Leone de Castris wine tradition. In 1665 Duke Oronzo, Earl of Lemos, gave birth to the company. Leone de catris has been working for centuries in Puglia and only Apulian products. Their mission is making the most of the products given by the land in which they were born and grown.

Leone De Castris is the star winery in Italy southern part. It is well-known for its wine production in terms of high quality and abundant variety. The Primitivo and Negroamaro grapes are characteristic features of Leone De Castris, and the famous fine wine Salice Salentino is made from local Negroamaro and Malvasia nera grapes. Currently, Leone De Castris have around 11 wines, including Leone De Castris white wine (Bianco Chardonnay, Apulia, Italy), Leone De Castris red wine (Negroamaro, Apulia, Italy), and its renowned Five Roses, and etc.

This year is the 70th anniversary of Leone De Castris Five Roses’s birth. It has deep pink color with brilliant cherry tones. It is characterized by a dedicate melange of flowers and fruits bouquet, soft and fresh taste with a lovely long finish. Five Roses was also the first bottle wine to be sold in Italy and was named in 1943.

Bringing this renowned wine with him, the current owner of Leone De Castris, Mr. Piernicola paid a visit to China in June, and held wine tasting events in Beijing, Suzhou, Shanghai, and Hangzhou respectively, jointly with SinoDrink, the long-term partner of Leone De Castris.

“The story started around 1943 and the main character in it was my grandfather. He used to be a lawyer and became a winemaker and an extradinary businessman during the second world war. He later produced Five Roses during this horrible period." The Five Roses has passed from generation to generation; so does this story.
